A Sermon To Usher In The Year of The DOG ...

Today was a very special day because the first day of the Chinese New Year falls on a Sunday when Christians go to attend service in their church.

While it is customary for the Chinese to visit their relatives especially on the first day of the new year, we encouraged the Sunday School Students and Church members to continue to come for the Sunday School and the Church Service first, and then their visitation later. So, quite many of them turned up.

I was delivering a sermon to the students in the Sunday School.

According to the Zodiac signs, this is the year of the DOG. So, my sermon was based on a special associations with DOG and it was delivered in Mandarin.

First of all, Let's begin with the word DOG.

DOG when spelt from the right is GOD. So, in the year of the dog, we should be constantly reminded of God in our lives. Bertrand Russell, an atheist said, "Unless you assume a God, the question of life's purpose is meaningless."

As usual, I have used the acronym DOG and created three main points for my sermon:
  1. Don't Omit God (DOG) - We should not omit or ignore God in our lives. We should always remember Him and His blessings. Please read Hosea 4:6
  2. Devote Ourselves to God (DOG) - We should devote ourselves, our heart and soul, and our resources to God. We should be devoted to serve Him. Please read Joshua 22:5
  3. Dependent On God (DOG) - We should be solely dependent on God and His guidance. Acknowledge Him in everything we do, and He shall direct our paths. Please read Proverbs 3:5-6

May the year of the dog bring more blessings into your life and that of your loved ones.
