Would you pay, say S$400,000 more for something that looks almost the same just across the road?
Just wondering if you could tell from the pictures, which apartment actually costs a few hundred thousand dollars more per unit. Is it the one on the left or that on the right? Both are recent projects and located just opposite each other, separated by a road. The apartments on the left are public housing flats while those on the right are the 99-year leasehold condominiums. I believe the condominiums should be selling at around S$700 psf. So, each unit might cost roughly S$700,000.
Is there anything so special about the design of the condominiums? In fact, their floor areas are generally the same or smaller than those of the public housing flats. But, I am just wondering, why people are willing to fork out so much more for a place called residence. Is it because of the exclusive facilities such as the swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, barbeque pits, clubhouse, security guards etc. or is it for that extra personal space called privacy, or for the nice status called prestige or is it for the financial returns under the name of investment or financial planning?
I personally feel that the design of the housing flats on the left looks more elegant, contemporary and spatial and the price is only about 1/3 that of the condominiums. But, at the end of the day, whatever the choice made, may the buyers be happy with their choice and may the new home bring them happiness every day of their lives.
