Long Service Award - 37 years!!!

I had the privilege of talking with a gentleman who has worked with SIA for the last 37 years. He has been awarded many Long Service Awards. Long Service Awards are typically presented to employees who work for at least five years with the same employer. A quick arithmetic would reveal that this gentleman should have received about seven such awards. Wow! It is impressive, isn't it?

In this new knowledge-based economy wherein things change pretty rapidly, it is not easy to stay on the same job or the same company for too long. One needs to innovate and change rapidly on the career path while making sure that he/she still aligns with and subordinates the corporate goals and stays relevant.

Incidentally, I spoke to another younger man who has been working in Australia for the last four years, in the aircraft industry, too. He seems to enjoy what he is doing. He is back in Singapore for holidays once a year. We chatted for a while about some possibilities of becoming self-employed.
